For basic printing functionality use the <a
href="http://hpinkjet.sf.net/">HPIJS
driver </a>. For advanced functionality such
as printer status and maintenance features, use the
<a href="http://hpinkjet.sf.net/">
HPLIP driver</a> (which includes HPIJS). <p>
Remember that the 6L is more like the LaserJet 4 family than the
LaserJet 6 family (as with most "L" printers from
HP). For example it does not work with the
"lj5gray"/"lj5mono" drivers but only with the
"ljet4" or "lj4dith" drivers (and
also Gimp-Print and HPIJS).<p>
The layout is off center and slightly rotated when using
Ghostscript. (could someone else please confirm this?)<p>
[Ed] I find the slight rotation bit hard to beleive, but until I
head otherwise, I'll leave this printer where it is. The
centering problem can be solved by simply adjusting the margins in
Ghostscript.<p>

Works fine for me, with Ghostscript 5.50 and FreeBSD 3.2, and no
special settings. /Karl-Johan Grahn<p>
Unfortunately, this printer has a little hardware problem: The
paper separation pad hardens with the time and the printer pulls
in several sheets of paper at once. HP is aware of this and offers
a kit to fix this without needing to disassemble the printer for
free. It can be ordered for delivery into any country via their
<a href="http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/document.jhtml?lc=en&docName=bpl08107">web site</a>.<p>
